East and West Finals!

icon_football If you’re a fan of Canadian football, then welcome to the most exciting time of the season!

This Sunday, November 22nd, will feature the two conference final playoff games, followed by the 97th Canadian football championship game on November 29th in Calgary. On Sunday, the East Final will pit British Columbia against Montreal, to be played indoors at the Big O in Montreal. B.C. snagged the crossover berth in the East this year, and knocked off Hamilton at Ivor Wynne Stadium in the Eastern Semifinal. The west coasters will be large underdogs against Montreal, but if quarterback Casey Printers can have another big game, you never know.

The West Final on Sunday has bitter opponents Calgary and Saskatchewan once again hooking up. It will be the first time since 1971 that these two teams have played in the West Final, and Saskatchewan has home field advantage by virtue of its first place finish, the first time they have won the West since way back in 1976. Saskatchewan is the favourite in this game, but look for it to be a very hard fought battle between two solid football teams.

The league championship is set for Calgary’s McMahon Stadium on November 29th, with a 4:30 p.m. start time. The game is already sold out, and it should be another Canadian football classic! Hopefully the Calgary weather will cooperate, and fans at the game can celebrate the ending of the season in style.

There will as always be some new storylines to follow in the league, as several big name players are with new teams. Whether or not some of the teams in the Eastern Conference can improve their level of play to compete with the West will once again be one of the big questions this year.
